The first
people that we see, when we are brought into this world are our
Parents. From the moment of conception, they love us, talk to us,
nurture us, provide a safe place for us to develop.
As we grow
and mature, we look up to them, admire them, depend on them thru
good times and bad, They are our source of unconditional love and
acceptance. Throughout our lives, they play an important role in
who we are and who we become. They are our foundation for the future.
So, what
goes through our minds when we hear the words, "Dad has Cancer and
has 6 months" or "I'm sorry, your Mom was killed in a car accident"
and so many more horrific statements as these. Our world as we know
it, is suddenly turned upside down! We think, "how could this be
happening? Our parents are not supposed to die." But, unfortunately,
as we all know and have experienced, those whom we d do
one day leave this world and enter an everlasting life. So, how
do we deal with this? Not very easily. We walk around in a fog for
days, months, sometimes years...lost, empty, alone, afraid. We ask,
"why me"..."what did I do to prompt this to happen to one that I
loved"?
These questions
and so many more, are a very normal and valid part of the grief
process. Healing takes time. Everyone grieves differently and there
is no right or wrong way to do it. There is also no time-table to
grief. It takes as long as it takes. We own our feelings and don't
have to accept otherwise. We seek the support of family and friends
along the way who can help ease the hurt, listen to our thoughts
and feelings, and provide a shoulder to cry on. No one needs to
be alone along this journey.
If you grieve
the loss of a Parent, we invite you to join us in HALO's "Beacon
of Hope" Parent Loss Chat Room, where you will receive lots of support,
hugs, unconditional love, acceptance and Hope for healing.
